News archives December 2001

It only remains for me to say happy New Year to you all and thank all the visitors to the Enfield Town website and forum for making this such a fun job. Thanks, and has anyone got a shovel? (this joke is meaningless to Netscape users!) Neil Avey

Bowers United 1 Enfield Town 0
Essex Senior League

A 90th minute goal by Steve Warner robbed Enfield Town of a point and leadership of the ESL this afternoon. It was to be a cruel twist of fate, as Enfield Town had dominated the game against 10 man Bowers United without getting the vital winner. Former E's favourite Martin St Hilaire made his debut and looks to be a useful signing by manager Jim Chandler. Match report to follow later.

Les Gold writes:- For our match v the RAF FA on Wednesday 23rd January ,we will be running a coach. Naturally enough the RAF are insistent on security and would preferably like all the Enfield Town supporters to travel together on the official coach. We would need names of anyone interested in travelling to contact either Fran or myself either in person on Saturday or by phone (see Fanzone for details).

Enfield Town 4 Burnham Ramblers 0
Essex Senior League

A Danny Clarke hat-trick and a solo Danny Alleyne strike saw off Burnham Ramblers this afternoon on a freezing day at Brimsdown. Ronnie Watson made a welcome return to the side after returning from injury to come on as a substitute during the second half. Indeed, it was so cold that one of the unofficial club photographers' camera froze and would not operate in the extreme cold! Match report now posted.

Brimsdown ground developments
Matchday programme info: Dave Bryant

Brimsdown Sports and Social Club have submitted a planning application to improve facilities at Brimsdown. These improvements are required to protect Brimsdown Rovers FC status as a senior football club and to enable them to continue to compete at their current level of football and to enable them to compete once again in the FA Cup.

The developments that are proposed would satisfy the minimum requirements of the current Ryman League Division 3, the league immediately above the Minerva Spartan South Midland League in which Brimsdown currently play and would therefore safeguard the clubs status for the foreseeable future.

These proposals are fully supported by Enfield Town FC as they also meet the immediate requirements of our club and we will offer Brimsdown Sports and Social Club every assistance.

The proposals are for a small stand capable of seating 106 spectators on the south side of the pitch. Length (14 M) height ( 2.8 M) and width (2.7M). The existing shelter on the North side of the pitch would also remain and terracing would be added to the structure to enable it to accommodate 100 spectators. An exterior boundary fence of 1.83 M high would be erected with exit points and turnstiles. Existing dressing rooms, plus toilet facilities for male and female spectators, and a refreshment outlet would be located within the boundary fence. The existing hard permanent walkway around the pitch would be extended to on all four sides of the pitch. These very modest improvements would allow spectators to watch games in greater comfort and to make use of shelter in poor weather.

New forum for ETFC
All change!

Alert visitors to the Non League Forum on Sunday will have noticed that Enfield Town now have a presence on the site. The ETFC official website forum will be moving to the Non League Forums in the next day or so as a response to the pop-up adverts that have been appearing on Bravenet over the past few days. Some of you have not been aware of these on your screens but to those of us who have, they are spoiling the enjoyment of using the forum. Bravenet have served both the old TGTLS News and now the ETFC official site admirably for over four years, but now is the time for a fresh change. NLF do not intend to include pop-ups and seem a popular alternative so I am moving the official forum there as soon as I can get the site to take in the new address.

Regular users of Derek Bird's Enfield forum will be familiar with the workings of the new forum and the reaction to the switch has so far been positive. Initially, to post on the forum you will need to register your email address to use the service, but if the opinion is to open the forum up to non registered then I will do so. The option is always there.
