Club statement

Following the game at Leyton our management Committee submitted a detailed report on the events at that game expressing our serious concerns at the treatment of our supporters.

Dave Bryant and Dave Farenden attended a special meeting of the Leagues Management Committee on 10 January to discuss the forthcoming game. At this meeting a copy of an 'official complaint' from Leyton about the behaviour of our supporters and management committee and our report were circulated. We reiterated at this meeting that we stood by the report we had submitted. We also stated that we had no problem in staging the forthcoming game against Leyton at home.

The League Management Committee took the view that they wanted the game brought forward to midday, segregated and policed. The Clubs Board met last week to consider our options. It was decided to proceed with the Leagues requests in order that the game could go ahead at Brimsdown. This is no way is an acceptance of the allegations made against our supporters who are a credit to our club and the league wherever they go. A fact appreciated by almost every club we visit. We will also be writing to the League in the strongest refuting the allegations made by Leyton.

There is no doubt that we have learnt a lot from this experience and with the benefit of hindsight would have dealt with some aspects differently. However we will not allow this issue to detract from our excellent season and the many important challenges ahead of us.

We know we can rely on you to provide all genuine Leyton supporters and officials a warm, friendly welcome, in the true spirit of the ESL.

Enfield Town 3 Wealdstone 1
Middlesex Senior Cup Quarter Final

Two goals by Danny Clarke secured a semi final place against Hendon or Hayes in the Middlesex Senior Cup. Wealdstone - Ryman Division One opponents and on paper our strongest opponents to date - looked set to swamp Enfield Town in the opening stages, but Clarke's opener on 27 minutes settled the home side and in the second half only one side was going to win once Clarke slotted home his second after a mistake by Wealdstone keeper Andy Carter. An own goal sealed the win late on. Match report now posted.
